When was Wellness Works formed and who owns it?
Wellness Works is a limited company incorporated in March 2006. It is owned and run solely by Managing Director, Dr Graham Matthews and Business Director, Suzy Pope.
It is our intention that Wellness Works remains small. We perceive this to be an asset so we can provide a high quality, personal service to our clients. The directors, Graham Matthews and Suzy Pope are the company and like to deal personally with all clients.

Why Wellness Works?
Why book a Wellness Works workshop?
We are confident from feedback and experience that acting on the material given in our workshops will reduce stress and improve the health and wellbeing of your staff. Once equipped with this crucial information individuals can set about making positive changes. A healthy, happy workforce means reduced absenteeism, a decrease in costly mistakes and increased performance which will have a direct impact on the success of your business.
There is an enormous amount of research which demonstrates that all companies require health and stress education. We have included some of the key statistics on our Hard Facts page. If you would like more information please contact us for our Research & Statistics information sheet.
The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) now requires organisations to take action to prevent and control occupational illnesses. Booking a Wellness Works workshop will help you comply with Health & Safety regulations. It will also demonstrate to your staff that you care.
How will Wellness Works help our business?
Our goal is to empower your staff to take care of their own and their team’s stress and health issues. While a prescriptive approach can be easily forgotten, our proactive style of learning empowers individuals to take responsibility for their own health and the health of their colleagues forever. Our workshops provide realistic strategies and life skills which attendees can implement for themselves and their team not only for a short time following the workshop, but for continued improvement for the rest of their lives.
Happy, healthy employees mean increased company loyalty and staff retention while a reduction in sick days leads to greater productivity. If your company is seen to be taking health and happiness issues seriously, not only will current employees be more pleasant to deal with, but you will appeal to potential employees too. Providing our workshops for your employees also demonstrates to them that you care. Satisfied staff, reduced absenteeism, increased staff retention and attracting the right new employees will all contribute to a successful, thriving business and rewards for everyone.
How are the benefits of a workshop measured?
We have been delighted with the positive response from the companies we have worked with. We actively encourage feedback and measure the success of all our workshops by the feedback we get from each attendee. An example of feedback from a recent workshop demonstrated that 92% of attendees thought that overall the workshop was ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’. 96% thought the material was ‘very relevant’ or ‘relevant’, and 100% thought the workshop was communicated ‘very well’ or ‘well’.
Monitoring the success of our workshops is important to us and we can suggest ways of doing this within your own business systems.
Who should attend a workshop?
Everyone! We advise that the workshops be compulsory rather than voluntary. Most people need help but asking them to attend a workshop voluntarily may not be the ideal solution as, in our experience, attendees tend to be the people who are already interested in or have some knowledge of the subject. It is equally important, if not more so, to attract attendance by staff who have little or no knowledge or interest in the topics as it is they who have the most to learn and therefore gain.
We also consider it vital that managers and decision makers attend as they have the authority to implement the changes suggested in the workshops. We find that delivering the workshops as part of an ongoing employee training programme with an element of compulsion and expectation means that all team members get the same information at the same time and can then build solutions as a team.
The Workshops
How were the workshop topics chosen?
Our three half day workshops - Understanding Stress & Fatigue, Wellness at Work, and Flow & Teambuilding - have been carefully crafted from hundreds of clinic hours observing and assessing people on an individual basis. It is our experience that detail and depth is required for delegates to have a real understanding of the subject.
Please contact us if you would like further information on the content of our three main workshops.
Our Pick & Mix workshop topics were devised after conducting a comprehensive questionnaire based survey. In addition to this research, the topics we have chosen are common issues discussed with patients in clinical practice by both Wellness Works directors, Dr Graham Matthews and Suzy Pope.
Which workshop?
All our workshops are stand-alone or can be run in a series. As stress and fatigue is one of the major issues facing employers, we suggest our Understanding Stress & Fatigue workshop for first timers. Stress and fatigue can be responsible for a loss in productivity, a decrease in performance quality and an increase in days lost to sickness. This workshop contains crucial information for everyone.
The Wellness at Work workshop is a natural follow-on from Understanding Stress & Fatigue, while Flow & Teambuilding is probably more appropriate for senior staff and decision makers.
The What is Wellness? The Principles of Health workshop is the foundation of the Pick & Mix series and sits alongside any of the other Pick & Mix options to make up half a day. As there are twelve topics to choose from, the Pick & Mix workshops allow businesses to focus on the issues that particularly affect or interest them.
We are very happy to advise you on choosing the right workshop/s for your company so please do contact us and we will do our best to help.
How up-to-date is the information given in the workshops?
Both directors are practising health professionals meaning that their experience is relevant and up-to-date. Being registered with their appropriate professional bodies they are committed to a programme of continued professional development meaning that they are constantly learning and developing as practitioners.
What style are the workshops?
Each workshop is delivered in an informal seminar style and includes a PowerPoint presentation. The workshops are interactive with practical demonstrations and encourage delegate participation. Visual aids (eg anatomical models) and practical demonstrations (eg pulse meters or blood pressure monitors) are used as appropriate.
All workshops are delivered by wellness chiropractor, qualified lecturer, and Managing Director of Wellness Works, Dr Graham Matthews providing continuity and consistency of style. Because Graham is a qualified lecturer as well as a health professional, we can ensure that information is communicated in an easy to understand, relatively jargon-free way.
The workshops focus on empowering individuals to take responsibility for their own health. Our approach is down-to-earth, friendly and straightforward. We are realistic and our methods are gentle. This means we won’t expect someone who’s a 20 stone, 40 cigarette-a-day-man to become a David Beckham overnight. However, we will provide him with the right tools to make improvements to his lifestyle so that he reduces his sick days and increases his productivity.
How long do the workshops take?
Our three core workshops (Understanding Stress & Fatigue, Wellness at Work & Flow & Teambuilding) incorporate a large amount of material and usually run for half a day, for example, 9.00am-1pm or 1.00-5.00pm with one or two coffee breaks depending on how we progress.
Each Pick & Mix workshop is designed to last two hours. You can choose two topics to make up a half-day session.
Where are the workshops held?
Workshops are usually held at your premises provided you have a suitable room. We recommend that refreshments (tea, coffee, water and biscuits) are also provided by you. If you do not have suitable facilities at your premises we would need to discuss an alternative venue with you. You would be responsible for booking and paying for this.
How many people can attend?
We usually suggest a maximum of 15 people attend the three main workshops to allow for a high tutor-delegate ratio and a more relaxed environment, but we can accommodate more for the Pick & Mix workshops. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
What happens after a workshop?
All attendees take away a comprehensive information pack. We also follow up each workshop with a motivational letter to each delegate, approximately eight weeks after the workshop attended. This encourages delegates to re-visit their information packs and reminds them to implement what they have learnt.
Certificates of Attendance can also be provided, if wished.
How much does a workshop cost?
That depends on how many people attend and how many workshops you book. Our prices reflect the quality of the information delivered, and the extensive training, education, qualifications and years of clinical experience of both Wellness Works directors.
As a guide, prices can be from £125 per delegate but please do contact us to discuss your company’s requirements and we will provide you with a tailored quote.
